The Assault Rifle is a weapon in Red Faction.

Gameplay
Description
Red Faction: Guerrilla is a 3rd person, open-world action shooter set on Mars, set 50 years after the events of the original Red Faction (the year 2125). Players take the role of an insurgent fighter named Alec Mason with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force (EDF - allies in the first Red Faction). Throughout their fight for freedom, players carve their own path, wreaking havoc across the vast, open-world environment of Mars, from the desolate mining outpost of Parker to the gleaming EDF capital city of Eos to the Earth-like region known as Oasis.
The UAR-42 Assault Rifle is an Ultor commander's best friend past his pistol. It reaps the benefits of a full-size rifle (high muzzle velocity for high penetration, long barrel for high accuracy), but in a compact bullpup style design. Primary fire is a three-shot burst; the most one can fire at once without losing a lot of accuracy, but it should be known that even just one single hit from a 5.56mm armor-penetrating round will cause deep hurting on both armored and unarmored targets. The assault rifle is used most by baddies toward the beginning and middle portions of the game, but you'll find that it's a very effective weapon all the way to the end and may even end up being utilized almost exclusively in favor of other weapons, until you run out of ammo at least.

Utilizing improvised weapons, explosives and re-purposed mining equipment and vehicles, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to tear through fully destructible environments in an unforgiving Martian landscape swarming with EDF forces, Red Faction resistance fighters, and the downtrodden settlers caught in the cross-fire. Red Faction: Guerrilla also features a robust multiplayer component, including several modes focused on destruction-based gameplay.

Multiplayer
Red Faction: Guerrilla features online multiplayer. It utilizes a matchmaking system similar to that of the Halo series. The current game modes include Demolition, Anarchy, Siege, Capture The Flag, and Team Anarchy. Before Siege and Demolition can be played, the player must achieve a certain rank.

The PC version of Red Faction: Guerrilla will not feature dedicated servers, instead clients will have to host "listen" servers.

Wrecking Crew
Main Article: Wrecking Crew

Wrecking Crew is a hot-seat multiplayer game of destruction unique to Red Faction: Guerrilla. This mode is offered as essentially single player full screen gaming, with the option to specify players and accumulate scores while taking turns playing the game.

Plot
The game's story begins with the protagonist, Alec Mason, landing on Mars in the year 2125 as a mining engineer. Alec meets with his brother, Dan Mason, who is killed by the Earth Defense Force (EDF) soon after. Hugo Davies, the commander of the Red Faction, recruits Alec to fight alongside other guerrillas to assist in the goal of liberating all six sectors and overthrow the oppressive EDF.

Following Alec's recruitment, the EDF are driven out of the Parker sector through the faction's efforts to minimize their control and surveillance abilities. The Red Faction soon made their move into the Dust sector, the EDF's main source of income on Mars. Alec is introduced to the Marauders and discovers the Nano Forge, a device sought after by the commander of the Hydra, Admiral Kobel, and the commander of the EDF, General Roth. In response to this discovery, the EDF were forced to withdraw from Dust and launch an artillery attack to cover their tracks, which Alec circumvents by saving essential personnel and resources.

Samanya, an engineer and major aid in the production of the Red Faction's equipment and weaponry, creates a weapon known as the Nano Rifle from the newly discovered Nano Forge, which poses a threat to the EDF.

After Dust's liberation, the Red Faction then advanced into The Badlands, the home of the Marauders and the largest outpost of the EDF. Alec, alongside Jon Kepler and Carmen Avila, kidnaps and interrogates Colonel Broga, the commander of EDF artillery base in the Free Fire Zone. This interrogation results in the death of Broga, and reveals gaps in the artillery's coverage that allow for the Red Faction to cross the Free Fire Zone. Before the liberation of The Badlands, Alec destroys a squadron of EDF gunships in an airfield, clearing the airspace over the Free Fire Zone. Soon after, the Red Faction proceeded into and liberated Oasis, which was similarly attacked by EDF to cover their withdrawal from the sector.

Alec, using the information gathered from the interrogation, traverses the Free Fire Zone and destroys the power to the EDF's artillery guns, allowing the Red Faction to access the Eos sector. With a plan to liberate Eos by commencing an assault on the EDF Central Command, the EDF unexpectedly raided the north safehouse in The Badlands, resulting in the plan's abortion and the regrouping of all Red Faction units. The attack led to the death of Hugo, Carmen and Kepler, which left Alec, Samanya and few other allies as the only survivors.

With the Hydra nearing Mars and its plan to elimate all Red Faction insurgents, Alec and Samanya seek the help of the Marauders and their leader Vasha, Samanya's sister.
