Pure Faction
Pure Faction is a third party Red Faction anti-cheat, anti-hack, and anti-glitch patch coded entirely in ASM by TrotSkie. It also provides extra security for both servers and clients as well as fixing the notorious nVidia 8 and 9 Series bug.
Blocked Cheats
The latest Pure Faction release (Beta 3) blocks most cheats available publicly for the game, however this list is an incomplete list of what to expect in Beta 4.
Specifics:
- Wallhacks: Pure Faction helps prevent wallhacks.
- Colorbots: Pure Faction helps prevent colorbots due to the color cycling rail scanner.
- Aimbots: There are only two aimbots known to work with Red Faction 1.2, and neither are public. Regardless, Pure Faction blocks both.
- Table Cheats: Pure Faction blocks table cheats.
- MYTH Trainer: Pure Faction blocks MYTH and any other infinte ammo trainers. The server now keeps track of how much ammo each player has and will not let him fire when empty.
- Brightskins: Pure Faction blocks brightskins.
Blocked Glitches
The latest Pure Faction release (Beta 3) blocks most glitches available publicly for the game, however this list is an incomplete list of what to expect in Beta 4.
- Baton Glitch: Pure Faction blocks the infamous baton glitch by not allowing people to switch weapons while firing.
- Reload Skip Glitch: Pure Faction blocks the Reload Skip Glitch by disallowing fast-switching.
- Green Team Glitch: Pure Faction blocks the Green Team Glitch by ignoring the " team ' " console command.
Security Fixes
The latest Pure Faction release (Beta 3) blocks most security holes available publicly for the game, however this list is an incomplete list of what to expect in Beta 4.
- Dozens of security flaws which allow an attack to execute code (e.g. format a drive) on a target machine.
- Dozens of crashing vulnerabilities.
nVidia 8 and 9 Series
Pure Faction fixes the issue with Red Faction and nVidia 8 and 9 series video cards. Without Pure Faction, 8 and 9 series users suffer from strange graphical glitches in the game. With Pure Faction, TrotSkie has developed the only known fix specifically for this anomaly.
8MB VRAM Bug
The 8MB VRAM bug occurs when a client tries to run Red Faction on a Vista 64-bit machine with 4GB of RAM. Red Faction gives the error "At least 8MB of available video memory is requires to play Red Faction!"
In a patch released a short time ago by TrotSkie, PF.exe (or rf.exe) this bug is fixed. It is presumed that this fix will also be in Pure Faction Beta 4.
Versions
Pure Faction has had 4 known releases at this time.
- The latest released version of Pure Faction is beta 3, with beta 4 expected soon.
- An alpha of Pure Faction was released to some popular Red Faction websites shortly prior TrotSkie's departure. With the latest version of Pure, this old version is largely thought to be useless.
