The Badlands.

Description

The Badlands is a wasteland of jagged rocks, dead settlements, and more. This region is described as "where terraforming went wrong". The Badlands are home to a mysterious group, called Marauders, descendants of Ultor Scientists from the first Red Faction who appear in large numbers at night. The Earth Defense Force does not like going out there, but still maintains a substantial presence in the region.

Role

The Badlands is one of the regions contained within the martian area of Tharsis. The Ultor corporation may be gone, but it's not forgotten. Deep within The Badlands sit the old Ultor mines and ghosts of the past that aren't willing to go quietly into the night.

Easter Eggs

A number of Easter eggs can be found in the Badlands, including:

  • One of NASA's two unmanned rovers launched in 2004, Spirit and Opportunity, can be found in a small gully in the Badlands. It appears on the mini-map as a vehicle, but cannot be driven.
